HOW WAKING UP WITH A STIFF NECK LED TO A KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN. A SEQUEL.

It’s almost been three years since my son woke up with a stiff neck which his doctor attributed to his bad habit of sleeping on his stomach. This led us on a journey to solve his problem and others caused by poor sleeping habits. Have you ever woken up with a kink in your neck? Couldn’t sleep because of indigestion? Kept your partner awake with your snoring? We realized that changing the positions people sleep in can improve the way they feel all day.

Poor sleeping habits can lead to all sorts of problems, from back pain to snoring to numbness and even wrinkles, but how do you change what you do when you’re not even awake? Traditionally, pillows were the only option to support our body in a particular sleep position. Unfortunately, when we are asleep, the ease of moving the pillows provides limited success in changing our sleep habits. So at iSleepFit™ System, we designed our first product to successfully help maintain your desired sleep position.

Getting the world, or even our friends and family, to improve health through better sleep is no easy task. As a start-up business, iSleepFit™ System decided to launch the iSleepFit™ Posture Belt through crowdfunding. We chose Kickstarter for their popularity and to bring our story to a wider audience instead of just opening an e-commerce store on our website.

Our campaign is a little different than others in that we have already invested a lot of time and money into research, patent and registration fees, product design and tooling. We are using the platform as a pre-sale product launch to determine demand. The urgency of the “all or none” approach to funding was attractive. With only nine days left and a little over a third of our way there, I have to admit that doubt bubbles up if it was the right decision, but I remain hopeful. We are reaching out to the media daily, knowing it just takes just one mention to go viral and we have an active tribe of family and friends who want to see us succeed.

So if you are reading this blog before 5pm on Sunday, October, 16, 2016 please join our fitness movement to make sleep a conscious part of healthy living by visiting the iSleepFit™ Posture Belt Kickstarter Campaign. Afterwards, you can find us at iSleepFit™ System. Continue reading to learn more about stomach sleeping.

Sleep well, Rebecca

STOMACH SLEEPING IS THE LEAST HEALTHY BEDTIME POSTURE.

first posted November 8, 2015

One morning my son Chase woke up with a kink in his neck, so I scheduled an appointment for him to see my chiropractor. The doctor told Chase his pain was related to sleeping on his stomach. Even though stomach sleeping is one of the most popular, comfortable sleeping positions to fall asleep in, it creates the greatest health risk, in contrast to side or back sleeping.

Sleep postures can exasperate certain health conditions and negatively impact the way you feel all day long. In my recent blog, “What’s the healthiest sleep position for you?” I explained the pros and cons of each sleep position. I’ve expounded why stomach sleeping isn’t the ideal sleep posture.

  • The natural curvature of the spine becomes flattened and keeps your head turned to one side, causing neck pain.
  • Blood flow is restricted, which places pressure on your joints and muscles, irritates your nerves and may lead to pain, numbness and tingling.
  • Your lungs become restricted, resulting in shallow breathing.

When is stomach sleeping recommended?

Occasionally, sleeping on your stomach can relieve pressure between on your intervertebral discs. As an alternative, consider sleeping without a pillow or using a body pillow to alleviate the circulation and pressure issues.

How can I stop sleeping on my stomach?

Traditionally, pillows were the only option to support the body in a particular sleep position. Unfortunately, when we are asleep, it’s too easy to remove the pillows. That’s one of the reasons why our first product here at iSleepFit™ is designed to gently keep you in your desired sleeping position.

The iSleepFit™ Posture Belt, is worn around your waist and uses three anti-rolling spheres to discourage you from rolling into a different sleep position. These spheres can be adjusted to encourage either a back, side or stomach sleeping position.
