Have you ever wanted to do something, you’ve never done before? What stopped you? Don’t let fear, time, knowledge or frustration prevent you from living your dreams. Join me at the “birthplace of creativity”.

Have you ever wanted to do something, you’ve never done before? What stopped you? Was it fear? Maybe you didn’t have enough time or the timing wasn’t right. Did learning get in your way? Or were you just too frustrated and gave up?

I invented a product 18 months ago and have been on what seems to be a never-ending journey to get it launched because of fear, time, knowledge and frustration. Procrastination got the better of me, so three months ago I decided to hold myself accountable by displaying a product launch countdown on my Facebook cover.

Well, it’s two days away and I still don’t feel ready. Have you ever experienced that? Maybe it was when you were in school cramming for your final exam or preparing a presentation to land your company’s biggest account? Perhaps it was the moment you were walking down the aisle to be married or when the doctor announced you are going to become a parent. Our perceived or real lack of preparation creates feelings we can all understand and stops most of us dead in our tracks.

With my type-A personality, I know I’ll never be completely ready. However, long ago I gave myself permission to start without having it all figured out. If I show up with good intentions that are a result of my hard-work and passion, then I will gain people’s trust and support to move forward and succeed. It can still be difficult not to get distracted with the details, but I’ve learned that done is better than perfect.

So, here I am completely naked with fear stopping me from pressing the post button. Then Brené Brown eloquently whispers to me, “Vulnerability is the birthplace of creativity.” So I breathe deeply and in the words of Theodore Roosevelt, enter the arena “to dare greatly”!
